New Wrexham Maelor choir receives an incredible amount of support

The Maelor Wellbeing Choir, formed in May by Medical Directorate Matron Rebecca Jones and Prince of Wales Ward Manager Virma Pebeyre, has quickly gained momentum and support within the Wrexham Maelor Hospital community. Teaming up with Aled Phillips, the Conductor of Johns Boys male voice choir, the Wellbeing Choir is on a mission to promote staff wellbeing and mental health across the Health Board.

Aled Phillips, known for his work with Johns Boys male voice choir who recently appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and the Royal Variety Performance, is lending his expertise to help the Wellbeing Choir prepare for various performances across North Wales. He is also supporting the choir in singing at local charity events, adding a professional touch to their performances.

Rebecca Jones expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response from Wrexham Maelor Hospital staff towards the choir. The rehearsals, held fortnightly within the hospital premises, have seen dedicated attendance from staff members who willingly commit their time after their shifts. The positive impact of the choir on the mental wellbeing of its members has been significant, with feedback indicating a noticeable improvement in their overall wellbeing.

Virma Pebeyre emphasized that this is just the beginning of the choir’s journey. With over 40 members from various departments across the hospital, including healthcare professionals, the choir is poised to evolve and provide more opportunities for its members to participate in future performances. The ultimate goal is to continuously enhance the wellbeing of each member through the power of music and community.

Aled Phillips, who had a personal connection to Wrexham Maelor Hospital through a family member, was deeply moved by the dedication and hard work of the hospital staff. His decision to lead choir rehearsals was a natural extension of his desire to give back to the community that had supported his family during a difficult time. Impressed by the natural talent and enthusiasm of the choir members, Aled is eagerly looking forward to witnessing their live performances and hearing their voices resonate with audiences.

In conclusion, the Maelor Wellbeing Choir stands as a testament to the healing power of music and community support. Through their dedication to promoting staff wellbeing and mental health, the choir has created a positive impact within the Wrexham Maelor Hospital community. With the guidance of Aled Phillips and the unwavering commitment of its members, the choir is set to continue growing and spreading joy through their harmonious performances.
